All Together Now – Summer Reading Challenge 2023

  • All Together Now - Summer Reading Challenge 2023It’s that time of year again! Kids are getting out of school, families are planning vacations, and the Library is offering its annual Summer Reading Challenge.

This year our theme is “All Together Now.” Throughout our Summer Reading Challenge, we will have performers who will show us through animals, friends, science, and books how to work together to make a better world for all. These will include visits from Dickerson Park Zoo, Mad Science, Wonders of Wildlife, a local beekeeper, and more. For a complete schedule of events, you can download and save the PDF  version of our Summer Reading Challenge Performer’s Schedule or bookmark our new Calendar of Events.

Like last year, if you participated in our challenge, it is FREE, and we have a version that fits each age group. We invite you to complete reading goals to earn coupons for local area businesses and tickets to our grand prize drawings.

Don’t worry, parents and patrons, we heard you, and we apologize for the semi-permanent cramp to your hand from all the ticket filling you had to do last year and have changed that portion of the Summer Reading Challenge.

Registration

Registration begins on Monday, May 22, 2023; logging your reading won’t start until Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The Summer Reading Challenge will run from Tuesday, May 30, to Saturday, August 5, 2023.

We will host a pool party at the Camdenton Aquatic Center on Saturday, August 12, at 6:30 pm.

  • At registration, each person who signs up will receive one (1) ticket into our grand prize drawing.
  • At registration, everyone will receive a reading log to keep track of their reading.
  • Kids and teens, birth – 18, will receive a free book.

How Does the Summer Reading Challenge Work?

For Kids and Teens (Ages Birth – 18)

Your child or teen will keep track of their reading on reading logs this year, and as they meet their reading goals, we encourage you to bring them back to the Library to pick up their coupons and a ticket to enter into our grand prize drawing. Parents Must Be Present When Children and Teens Register For The Summer Reading Challenge.

  • For babies to the age of 5, we encourage you to read at least 40 books this summer. For every ten (10) books you read, return your reading log to the Library to get a coupon, a grand prize drawing ticket, and a new reading log.
  • For children between the ages of 6 and 11, we encourage you to read at least 1,000 pages this summer. For every 250 pages you read, return to the Library to pick up your coupon, a grand prize drawing ticket, and a new reading log, if needed.
  • For teens between the ages of 12 and 18, we encourage you to read at least 2,000 pages this summer. For every 500 pages you read, return to the Library to pick up your coupon, a grand prize drawing ticket, and a new reading log if needed.
  • For adults 19+, we encourage you to read at least 4,000 pages. For every 1,000 pages you read, return to the Library to get a ticket for our grand prize drawing.
